You get a letter in the post and the return address is unfamiliar, you open it and it says: “Congratulations you qualify for a credit card!” You now get all excited and start picturing that holiday in Paris with your designer dress/suit and your new couch and your new flat screen TV etc. This all sounds amazing to you but there should be loud screeching breaks in your mind. Yes get that credit card but as the saying goes with great power comes great responsibility. That card could give you great power but when used unwisely could ruin you. This article will help you, with some useful tips on how to budget and keep your finances in order.

Primarily you need to know what you are able to afford and not. It’s very important that you realize that a credit card can’t buy you everything you want. You need to know that you will be able to pay it off. The ideal would be of course to only use the card in emergency situations. You can use your credit card for everyday purchases. You must remember, however, to always keep track of your spending. Try not to leave your payments for the last minute and try to scrape together cash from your last salary, separate you credit card down payments form your spending money.

When using your credit card for your everyday purchases diligently and obeying to the outlined rules you set yourself to, you are going to get a lot more pleasure out of using your credit cards and you take full advantage of the various rewards programs and interest free purchasing power you get when paying off your credit card every month in full. Also you are now able to keep larger amounts of money in your account for much longer allowing your money to earn a little more interest before the actual credit card payment is due. This limit should not be pushed to the edge though, as many people would do of course. A limit is there for you to know how much you are ABLE to spend but what you need to realize is that you should spend less than your limit. Keep in mind that credit is spending money you don’t have.

Making wise and informed choices is the best way of preventing financial debt. Creating a budget and sticking to it, repaying the credit card balance every month and never spending more than you can afford in cash should always be considered.
